 "I'm a believer" 2009-02-27
By Joe the trim guy (Wheaton, IL United States)
I am a professional trim carpenter and kitchen cabinet installer. I also build built in bookcases, fireplace mantels, mud room lockers and cabinets from time to time.

I bought a Woodstock pocket hole jig about 10 years ago. I was never all that impressed. The results where marginal at best. Used it this morning and it cut such sloppy holes that I called a friend who had raved about his Kreg jig and asked if I could borrow it for the day. I used the Kreg today and it is superior in every way. Easy to set up and use. It cut perfect holes and the joints are very tight.

The Woodstock is in the garbage and I'm ordering a Kreg.

Update. I have had the Kreg for a couple days and I just built a cabinet today with it. I didn't use a single nail and this sucker is strong. In fact it was a little hard to square up the carcass it was so rigid. Having the built in clamp allows you to work very fast.

I also bought the face clamp and right angle clamp, both worked very well and I would recommend them both. In fact if you will be doing big projects get 2 of each, they really speed things up.

I can't remember the last tool I was so excited about. Very well made, in the USA. This thing should hold up to daily use.

This is meant for bench mounting work, where you pieces can be put into position and then drilled. Although not intended for this use, the drill guide section can be removed for portable use, but you will need to devise a clamping system to drill the workpiece. Highly recommended.

When it comes to building furniture, I'm a beginner at best. I often help a friend of mine in his wood shop in order to learn as much as possible. Over vacation, he was showing me his pockethole jig and showed me how easy it was to use as well as how stable of a joint it created. I order the 35mm Kreg K2 pockethole jig and have used it several times. I love it! It is easy to use and adjust. A must buy that even inexperienced woodmakers should consider.

 "Significant Play in flipstop" 2008-08-21
By John Borchard (West Newton, MA USA)
I also have found the flipstop to have play. You can tighten the nut, which decreases it, but then everything gets too tight for moving up and down. Expect more like .030 (1/32) if the stop is tight and .060 (1/16) if it is loose. I only use my production stop, the flipstop sits in its box. I am doing precision cuts - picture frame miters - and this would be far too much tolerance for me.

"Track and stop are excellent products" 2008-06-13
By S. Griffin (Victor, Idaho)
I'm very happy with my Kreg track and stop system. Setting up your miter saw with stop system is mandatory in my opinion. The old tape measure/pencil mark/chase the mark and make a cut method is such a waste of time I'm amazed when I see builders doing it. Need 8 cripples at 33"? Set the stop and chop as fast as you can. And they come out perfect.

I've use the Beismeyer stops for 10 years and they work well. But they are so proud of their little stop which looks like it was made in a garage they think it's worth over $100. For that price I instead bought 2 4' kreg tracks and the flip stop. It works every bit as well was easier to set up.

So my advice--do not buy a miter saw with out also building a table, fence and kreg stop system. Sure it will take a couple hours and add $100, but it will be worth it. I'd rather have a cheaper miter saw than omit having a stop system. Any time you use a tape measure, you are wasting time.

-Steve

My only minor complaint is the flip stop has a tiny bit of play in it. We're talking a tiny little hair of play-Maybe .015 inch. So I have tightened the nut down and made it a non-fliping stop for fine cabinetry. For a constuction site and most projects, the flip stop would be the way to go, but I should have purchased the "production stop" to get the highest precision.

 "Kreg- flip stop" 2007-07-30
By Steven L. Johnson
I recently built a Miter saw station and added a Kreg track to the top of my fence. I put the flipstop on the leftside (my most frequently used side) and the stop block on the rightside. Both flipstop and stop block work very well as a stop block. It is so easy to use with the tape measure to reduce your measuring pains. However, the flip stop has a 1/4" offset for the cursor. While the offset for the stop block is 3/8" for the cursor? Why? They should be the same.

So what I had to do is install the tape measure for the flipstop to the left of the blade and the tape measure for the stop block to the right of the blade. Now that I think about the issue, I should have sent the stop block back and put flipstops on both sides, oh well!

The stopblock also has some other issues (I would rate only a 2) the cursors are pieces of plastic that fit into a slot on each side of the block. It is a straight slot without a stop in it, so you have to be careful how you install the plastic pieces to make sure they have 3/8" out each side. The flip stop has an end of the channel that makes it impossible to put in with any different offset than the 1/4".

"Great Add-on to Kreg Jig Sets" 2008-11-24
By Mitch and Gayle (Dallas, TX USA)
I love pocket hole joinery (strong and EASY). I already own the Kreg K3MS K3 Master Pocket Hole Jig System. I thought it would fulfill all of my pocket-hole needs. However, during a recent project, I needed to put a pocket hole in a tight place that the included jigs would not fit.

I ordered the mini-jig. Even though this jig requires a little more set-up than the Master jigs, it worked perfectly. It is a great add-on if you already have a jig set. I would not recommend it by itself because, at a minimum, you need the kit that includes the step drill bit as well as the square drive screws / bit.

 "Great for tight spaces" 2008-05-29
By SeaWolf's Home Workshop Blog (Florida)
This is a great little add on jig, if you already have a step drill bit and driver. The jig is great for getting into tight spaces or re-enforcing a loose joint that would be impossible with a full jig. I recommend you first make a test hole, as the directions did not specify enough jig offset to prevent screw head pull through allowing the screw come through the other side. An additional 3/8" offset solved the problem in ACQ 2" x 4" lumber and 2 1/2" stainless screws.

"The Kreg mini gives you the best for the least" 2003-12-14
By Bob Feeser (Springfield, PA USA)
When you think about it, this mini gives you the complete pocket hole capabilities with the least amount of money. (You'll need to buy the special drill bit as well for ideal results, both in starting the screw, and depth adjustability requirements) Since two holes are required for greater strength, you have to move the mini for each drilling. You could use an existing longer reach clamp to hold the mini in place, thereby eliminating the need to buy the clamp with it. So this mini is all of the advantages, without the price, but it requires more time to set up each project. Once you get into the advantages of pocket hole joinery, you probably will want more of the complete kit.
Kreg Pocket Hole offerings made the number one spot across the board in the November 2003 issue of Better Homes and Gardens "Wood" magazine. Everything from the mini on through to the automated production machine were given the top ratings. It was a clean sweep for Kreg. They tested a lot of machines too. Some of the advantages are the flush edge joining to the workpiece prevented tearout. The case hardened steel guides didn't show wear or metal shavings. Easy to make or buy the premade plug holes out of wood. (Some were an odd shape, and wouldn't accept plugs very well)
Even though the body is made out of plastic, which is substantial and well done, the steel guides are the only thing the drill bit touches.
Pocket hole joinery is a nice addition to your arsenal. You will find yourself incorporating it more and more into your projects, and the Kreg system is the best. Highly recommended.

"A cheap and handy little thing" 2009-05-07
By Woodworker (TN)
I bought this for my Kreg precision router table, and I just love it! It took 1 minute to install and 30 seconds to learn, and it works great together with Kreg's router table fence. No more tapping and overshooting the mark, just unlock the fence, turn the screw and lock the fence again. It will engage/disengage with a turn of the lock screw, and slides easily in the rail so it's not in the way when sliding the fence back for bit changes either.

There are some comments about this device not working properly with a Kreg band saw fence, but if this is of the same design as the router fence, there must be a problem with the installation or the way it's used. I don't understand the comment about adjusting the fence with tension on it, there is no need to have tension on the fence like when tapping it the old-school way (actually, tapping this type of fence while it's locked will eventually damage it or at least knock the alignment out of whack), and mine works just fine with the fence completely unlocked. The beauty of the Kreg fence is that it will always stay parallell with the rail once it's locked down, so the adjustment can be done without any tension on the fence. Just loosen the lockdowns completely, turn the screw, lock the fence again and it will be perfectly aligned. You may want to turn the screw slightly before unlocking the fence in order to compensate for the take-up in the screw, but that's it.

Taking it off when you remove the fence is really no big deal either, just turn the screw out all the way and slide it out. It may be annoying in the long run for those who remove and reinstall the fence several times a day, but it's a non-issue on a router table where the fence stays on pretty much all the time.

 "Not easy to use" 2008-10-29
By J. Greco (South Carolina)
I purchased the micro adjuster to go with the kreg band saw fence. I had a hard time setting up the micro adjuster, in fact I never got it to work correctly. It hindered the smooth back and forth movement of the fence and actually made the set up more difficult. I finaly gave up and returned the product. The fence on the other hand works great-very high quality and accuracy.

 "Needs careful adjustment" 2008-02-14
By A. Babcock (California)
I bought the Kreg band saw fence and the micro-adjuster about three months ago. At first, I couldn't get the adjuster to work at all--the wheel you're supposed to turn was difficult to grip and the amount of force required to turn it was excessive. So I just put the thing on a shelf and decided that the only good thing about it was that it didn't cost very much.

Then I was reading Mark Duginske's band saw book and saw a picture of a micro-adjuster on an Inca band saw. Duginske says they're wonderful devices and he doesn't understand why American manufacturers don't sell them (his book was written in 1989). The Inca device looks very much like the Kreg, so I thought I would have another go at making it work.

The problem was that I had the saddle mounted too high (it rides on 4 nylon screws) and the brass screw of the adjuster was binding in the hole of the saddle. Forcing the brass screw into the threaded hole cocked the saddle at a slight angle and prevented it from sliding smoothly.

Five minutes of fiddling with the nylon screws solved the problem. When I ran the screw into the threaded hole, it was obvious that the alignment was good. I tightened the adjuster to the rail and found I could move the fence easily, with gentle thumb pressure on the adjuster wheel.

I installed a dial indicator and found that one revolution of the wheel moves the fence by .050" (the screw looks like a 1/4-20). I found that I could easily move the fence left and right by as little as .001". There is backlash when you reverse direction, as you would expect.

I find that I use it fairly often. At first, I thought the thing would be useful only for cutting really thin veneer. But in fact, it is quite useful when you're trying to align the blade with a pencil mark on the workpiece, the workpiece is too big to sit by itself on the saw table, and you have only one hand free. Moving the fence "just a skosh" is easier when you can just rotate a thumbwheel rather than tapping the fence, overshooting, tapping the other way, etc. etc.

So I recommend this little gadget. But you have to install it properly.

"No substitute for this tool" 2008-08-18
By New England Yankee (Northern New England)
This clamp works flawlessly every time. Conceptually, it's very simple. It replaces one of the flats on a normal Kreg clamp with a pin that fits in the pocket hole. Use the clamps in one or more pocket holes while you drive the screws into the others. If you need 100% square accuracy, you can hold a square in place against the joint while you drive the screw.

By the way, you can use these to clamp items that are not flush to one another, e.g., frame reveals, parts with differing thicknesses, and inset panels. Try THAT with a corner clamp!

To the reviewer that wondered about using pocket holes on the outside of items: In cabinet making, it's the INSIDE of the cabinet that's the concern. The ply or particleboard sides and back of the cabinet are completely hidden for most cabinets and virtually always covered on end cabinets.

As to the review that talks about blowing out the pocket hole, the only things that could possibly cause that are drilling too small a pocket (the clamps work perfectly with Kreg drills), clamping so tight as to crush the pocket, or clamping at an extreme angle (the clamp will work at a range of angles, not just 90 degrees). Or perhaps the owner has a defective clamp. In any event, this is a highly unusual complaint, and I've yet to hear from anyone else with this problem. Trust your own judgement, though, go to a demo at a woodworking show or store and try them.

 "Just OK" 2009-03-22
By Jane Kendall (Shrewsbury)
I thought these were pretty good until I bought some Rockler feather boards. The Rockler boards have a more commercial grade feel about them by using thicker plastic in the bodies and knobs, yet having plenty of flex in the feathers. Also, Rockler makes the expandable wedge lock hold downs out of metal, which are more dependable in grabbing and releasing from the table saw miter slot, than the plastic ones Kreg uses.

Kreg makes a terrific line of pocket hole cutters, but these feather boards are just...OK.

"Overall a good addition to the router table" 2009-01-07
By B. Harmon (Seattle)
I've used these featherboards for about 4 months and found them to very helpful on my router table. They have helped prevent injury from a couple of nasty kickbacks. One slight downside is that the plastic slider that fits into the miter slot on the rounter table gets sawdust and woodchips caught in it so that the featherboard does not easily release from the miter slot. This isn't a big deal, only a mild annoyance. I purchased another set a week ago so I could use them on the router table fence.

This is a great product and safety device. I borrowed a the Bench Dog version from a friend, but found it didn't fit tightly into my Ridgid TS3650 table saw. This Kreg model fits great and locks down tight. After using them for only a day, I can't vouch for their longterm quality yet, but I can say I found myself thinking back to how many times I've been lucky and not lost parts of my fingers because I was stupid and putting them close to the blad because I didn't have a product like this to hold the wood tight to the fence. My only regret so far is hesitating spend the $40 to buy a product that I thought wouldn't be the helpful. I should have bought them years ago and not relied on luck to keep my fingers attached.

 "Nice featherboards" 2008-05-05
By Robert Cotton (Orlando FL)
In error, I ordered two of these, not realizing that they came in a two-pack. Thus, when they arrived, there were four featherboards. OK, you can never have too many of these things, so I kept them. That turned out to be a good thing. To change these things from a right-to-left feed into a left-to-right feed, you remove the bolts and washers and put them in from the other side. My router table uses right-to-left, and my table saw uses the equivalent of left-to-right, so I have two of them set up each way. Works great. Not that expensive, and if I had used them my entire woodworking career, I wouldn't have a messed up finger from a board kicking back at me. These are as well made as any I've seen.
